Coping with Holiday Stress: Finding Calm in the Chaos
The holidays can be stressful, especially if money is tight or you feel pressure to make everything perfect. Many people worry about how they’ll afford gifts or food, or how they’ll manage everything. You’re not alone in feeling that way.
Here are some ways to take back a little control and care for yourself this season:
- Focus on what you can control.
You can’t fix everything, but you can make small choices that make a difference. Plan when you can, set a simple budget, and say no to things that add too much stress.
2. Keep it simple.
The holidays don’t have to look fancy or expensive. Time with loved ones, a homemade meal, or going to see Christmas lights with a friend can matter just as much as big gifts or parties.
3. Take short breaks.
When you start to feel stressed, take a few deep breaths or step outside for fresh air. Even a few minutes can help you calm down and think more clearly.
4. Ask for help early.
If things start to feel like too much, reach out for support. That might mean talking with a friend, visiting a food pantry, or connecting with a counselor.
5. Rest when you can.
You don’t have to earn your rest. Getting enough sleep or taking alone time for yourself can help you feel more in control during the holiday season.
If the holidays start to feel too heavy, help is always available.
