When you experience a mental health or substance use crisis, RSI is ready to help as a fully equipped crisis center.
Located in Kansas City, Kansas and serving adults from Wyandotte and Johnson counties, RSI provides immediate, nonmedical assistance 24/7. Our goal is simple: reduce hospitalizations and arrests by delivering immediate, compassionate support during a crisis and connecting individuals to the longer-term care they need.
When you arrive, our trained mental health professionals conduct a quick but thorough assessment to determine your level of need. From there, we offer multiple options for care:
Sobering Unit: For individuals under the influence of alcohol or other substances, our sobering unit is a safe, supportive space available for up to 10 hours at a time. During your stay, our staff will begin the process of connecting you to recovery support and treatment options.
Crisis Observation Unit: For those experiencing a mental health episode, this 23-hour program offers immediate care and monitoring. The goal is to help stabilize your symptoms and connect you with follow-up care from community mental health providers.
Crisis Stabilization Unit: Some individuals may need more time and support. Our stabilization unit provides up to 10 days of intensive services in a calm and secure environment. We focus on stabilizing symptoms and preparing for the next step in your care journey.
Please note that RSI is not equipped to treat medical emergencies. If someone is experiencing a medical crisis, please call 911.
At RSI, you are not alone. Whether you’re reaching out for yourself or a loved one, help is available now. We are committed to urgently treating every person with dignity and compassion.
Whether you’re looking to begin recovery or need support after a crisis, RSI connects individuals to mental health and substance use treatment options that meet their needs. This may include outpatient therapy, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), peer support, and detox or rehabilitation referrals.
Our team begins the conversation at RSI and ensures that you leave with a clear path toward recovery, guided by compassionate care and trusted community partners.
Wyandot Behavioral Health Network (Wyandot BHN) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving mental health outcomes for individuals and families across Wyandotte County and beyond. Our network of services includes crisis intervention, outpatient therapy, case management, and housing support. Through these services, we provide person-centered, trauma-informed care for people of all ages. Our goal is to create strong communities where every person has access to the behavioral health care they need.
Stable housing plays a critical role in long-term recovery. That’s why RSI works closely with Kim Wilson Housing, a Wyandot BHN organization that connects individuals with safe, affordable housing. Whether you’re exiting crisis stabilization or working toward stability, our team can help you navigate housing applications, resources, and support services.
From transitional housing to permanent solutions, we’re here to ensure that no one has to face recovery without a place to call home.
Since opening in April 2014, RSI has helped more than 17,000 individuals experiencing mental health or substance use crises stay out of hospitals, emergency rooms, and jails. RSI bridges crisis intervention and resources for recovery, giving police officers, consumers, and community partners access to critical crisis services and longer-term solutions.
All Wyandot BHN organizations have their own mission and provide their own services, but we all share the same values:
- Stewardship: We display good judgment when making decisions and are dependable and resourceful.
- Positivity: We approach our work with enthusiasm and commitment to our mission.
- Inclusion: We make a conscious effort to ensure that diverse voices are present in the rooms where decisions are made in order to provide quality care that respects each person’s individual experience.
- Compassion: We treat each person with empathy, dignity, and respect.
- Excellence: We provide quality, outcome-driven services that exceed expectations.
As a crisis center in Kansas City, RSI is a resource for Wyandotte and Johnson County residents. Our success stems from active partnerships with city and county police departments, Heartland RADAC, KDADS, and more.
