The holiday season reminds us to focus on what matters most: friends, family, and the human bond that ties us all together. For some, this time of year is not a joyful holiday season, however. They may be reminded of their loss of a spouse or other family. Others may feel the financial pinch of the commercialization of the holidays, while others may simply feel alone. I encourage each of us to reach out to someone we know who may be hurting, feel alone, or is struggling this year. It is important to remind others and us what the season is really about.
In the new year, Wyandot BHN will be taking a big step forward in meeting people where they are. In March, we will open our new building at 1211 N. 8th Street, in the heart of downtown Kansas City, Kansas. The grand opening of this building has been years in the making.
For close to a decade, Wyandot BHN has been searching for an opportunity to open a downtown service location in order to better serve the individuals and families who live and work east of I-635. All of our current service locations are much further west. But we have known for years that those in the eastern portion of the county deserve more convenient access to care. This new location brings mental health care closer to home for many in our community, making it easier for them to access support when they need it most.
Whether someone needs a therapy appointment over a lunch break, a quick connection to resources, or ongoing support, the new facility is designed to fit more seamlessly into their daily lives.
Inside, the space is being built with intention—more room for walk-in services, more collaborative areas for staff, and a space that feels warm and welcoming. The goal is simple: care that is closer, easier to access, and built around the realities of how people live and work.
As we celebrate the holidays and look ahead to 2026, I’m hopeful for what this new chapter will mean for our community. We are looking forward to opening our doors on March 2 and welcoming you into a space created with accessibility, dignity, and connection at its core.
Wishing you a peaceful holiday season and a fresh start in the new year.
