Therapeutic art is a creative way to explore your emotions, process experiences, and support healing. It’s not about making “good” art. It’s about expressing yourself through visual mediums like painting, drawing, or mixed media. At ArtMakers Place, licensed mental health professionals can help you connect with your feelings and uncover insights in a safe, supportive space.

Bethany
"I had an extreme case of PTSD when I came here. I worked with a psychiatrist, a therapist and a case manager every week. I was too afraid to leave my home, lost all of my friends and completely shut down.... After a few years of working with this team, I found myself accomplishing more and more every day.

Absolutely. Art therapy can be especially helpful for people who find it hard to open up in traditional talk therapy. Creating art gives you a way to express complex emotions and experiences without needing to find the “right words.” When words are hard to find, many people feel a sense of relief, insight, and connection through the creative process.
Yes! If you would like to exhibit artwork you create, we host an event called stART the conversation each year in May. This art exhibition features the work of Kansas City community members whose artwork has a connection to mental health. This is completely optional and you are not required to enter your artwork as part of services at ArtMakers Place. Details for stART the conversation are released in February or March each year.
