Mental Health Support in Wyandotte County | Jennifer’s Story
Access to mental health services can make a lasting difference in someone’s life. For Jennifer*, the past 20 years of receiving mental health support in Wyandotte County through Wyandot Center have included challenges, personal growth, and important steps toward a better future. As she continues receiving services today, her story is a reminder that there is always hope, even during life’s hardest moments.
Growing up, Jennifer lived in a home where mental health challenges affected her family. As a young adult, she faced difficult relationships, raised three children, and experienced times of uncertainty. She struggled with alcohol use before making the decision to work toward sobriety.
In 2012, during a difficult time in her life, Jennifer knew she needed support. She first received mental health services through another provider, where she took part in outpatient care and art therapy. These services helped her take the first steps toward getting the support she needed. She was later encouraged to connect with Wyandot Center.
That connection became an important part of her journey.
Over the years, Jennifer has worked with caring team members, including her therapist, Judy, and case manager, Brian. With their support, she began to better understand her mental health and learn more about how mental health challenges can affect families.
Having people she could turn to during hard times helped Jennifer feel less alone. While her journey has had its ups and downs, she continues to move forward with support along the way.
After 20 years of receiving services, Jennifer hopes her story can encourage others who may be facing their own challenges.
Her advice is simple but powerful:
“Don’t give up. There is always hope. There is always a way out. Don’t get discouraged. Don’t measure yourself against someone else.”
Jennifer’s journey is still unfolding. After 20 years with Wyandot Center, she continues to receive support as she works toward her goals and looks ahead to the future. Her story reminds us that progress takes time, everyone’s journey is different, and asking for help is a sign of strength.
